To a Point.
I think my attitude towards a quintessentially Buddhist sort of take on life could be best summed up by the phrase, "Let's do this, like Brutus the clueless Buddist nudist."

Buddhism: How Simple?
So, allow me to please explain Buddhism to people who don't fucking "get it." First, let's hit some of the big points - and please let's accept that Buddhism itself is a constellation of various sects, not all of which overlap in doctrine or cosmology!
1. REINCARNATION: This is the big one. Look, I don't even give a shit. Reincarnation? This is my first time around, that's all I can tell you for sure. I'd like to make it stick if I can, but I hope I don't have to come back around AGAIN if I can't. What the fuck. What's the point at that point! Ain't no fucking lesson for me here, learning.
The "BODDHISATTVA VOW" - 2. Quite a lot of controversy on how precisely I should spell this. Luckily, such controversy is limited to me, for the most part! I'm pretty sure a quick Google would settle it for anyone else. A Boddhisattva is a person who takes a vow to basically - forgo the release from existence that enlightenment offers, in favor of remaining bound to this plane voluntarily, incarnation after incarnation, with a goal to help others to enlightenment. There's more to it that that.
ENLIGHTENMENT.
Look. It's not fucking complicated. The leaves in the tree are awakened, each to its nature. The sky is awakened to its nature.
A bullfrog is totally fucking awakened to its nature.
Are you awakened? Are your eyes opened to your nature in the oneness of all things? It consists not in things themselves!
4. BUDDHIST MONKS. These dudes are monks. Can they fight? In many cases, you bet they can! They prefer not to of course. So why did Tibet roll over like that? Come on! "Free Tibet" says the bumper sticker - and the Chinese must have seen a similar sign at the border, because they sure just rolled in and took it! "Oh, there's a special on Tibet. How much is it? Free!" Richard Gere says so at least.
"REALITY" IS AN "ILLUSION" - five, this is kind of a warped distortion of that whole doctrine of emptiness we mentioned earlier. Look: if the ultimate nature of all things is nonexistence, which seems likely, if all things are void of any fixed, separate, permanent inherent existence, that's all they're saying here.
Reality's transitory. It's a blip. These dudes sort of take the long view. Don't worry about it, though: just reconceive your conception of reality to refer to those transitory, shifting forms (such as Mount Everest) which ultimately *POOF* - GONE!
It will work just fine for Buddhism and for you, because let's be frank, reality is real enough while it lasts.
Which will be longer than your precious self.
